Although Ghana ranks 152 out of 182 on the Human Development Index, it has the 4th lowest rate of sanitation coverage worldwide (UNICEF/WHO 2010). While the WHO and UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program reports gradual improvements, over the last 20 years, in access to improved sanitation in Ghana, huge challenges remain with providing rural sanitation. It is against this background that World Partners for Development-Ghana is implementing Microflush Toilet projects in underserved communities in Ghana to improve the poor toilet sanitation in such communities.

WHAT IS OUR MICROFLUSH TOILET?

The Microflush Toilet is an off-grid, sustainable, environmentally friendly, low cost, odor- and fly-free toilet that reuses the small amount (1 cup) of greywater from a previous user’s hand wash to isolate waste and flush the toilet.
